Party At Backman Hall - View Log

Well, I hope that you’ve been able to recover from last weekend’s party by now. There were a ton of new comers who attended and I hope that you all had a great time and felt welcome!

I think the new Backman Hall facility worked out quite well (with the exception of the A/C going down later in the day on Saturday). The Power Boss (Dr. Death) was able to bring one of the two A/C units back online later that evening but we’ll definitely have to keep an eye on that at the next party. On a positive note, thanks to the extra efforts of Dr. Death, we had no power outages what-so-ever throughout the entire party!! Thanks Jeff! And the ever-so-familiar “Fun-Love” virus showed its ugly head once again but didn’t seem to affect too many folks because most of us had an up-to-date anti-virus program running.

I really want to thank Michael Baumbach and Kyle Corrigan from Intel for coming out and showing their support for our event. Here’s a picture of Jason “LiL_J” Lari who won the 2.53 Ghz Pentium 4 processor that Intel donated.

And in case you didn’t hear, in addition to the processor Intel gave us at the last party, they’re going to be donating a 2.8 Ghz processor for our next party too!! Woohoo!! Check here for the latest details…

The tournament went great with the exception of one map causing problems whenever we’d load into it. Congratulations to Archimedes for taking 1st place. By the way, there was some confusion about the “Death King” winner due to the fact that the statistics for the event were being misread. So instead of taking the prize away from Mark "Sobedragonz" Schneider who we mistakenly announced the Death King, we gave another prize to Acrid who was the actual Death King winner with 472 deaths. The prizes given were identical Everglide mouse pads donated by www.gamersport.com. My apologies for any confusion.

Many thanks to the following people for all their help:
  • Jackal, Disruptor, Dr. Death, phU|CrUM, Shermanator, and Ops for all their hard work helping setup all day Friday and tearing down late Saturday night
  • Ajax & Dr. Death for taking care of all the tournament needs
  • Dr. Death for doing a great job making sure that we always had power
  • Disruptor for setting up the network switches and cables and for getting a great deal on pizzas for lunch
  • Shermanator for taking photos
  • phU|CrUM for creating the PC Name Plates
  • phU|CrUM, Jackal, Shermanator, Ops, and many others for helping to provide their technical assistance
  • Ajax for throwing together that great MOHAA mod pack
  • Ops, Shermanator, and phU|CrUM for making a “lunner” run for everyone Friday night
  • Mike "TopDog" Jones for donating the additional pizza Friday night
  • My wife Kelly for helping out with the front registration table
  • First United Methodist Church Of Roseville for giving us such a great deal on the use of their facility
  • All those you who pitched in when needed
  • Anyone else whom I may be forgetting!

Our next party will be held at the same facility (Backman Hall) on August 16-17th. Sign ups should be online this week! The pictures from the party should also be posted soon… (Do you have any you’d like to send me?)

Michael Baumbach from Intel confirmed that the processor speed for the drawing this Saturday is indeed a Pentium 4 - 2.53Ghz processor! It has the new 533Mhz front side bus and it's the fastest desktop CPU available! Pendragon noted that it's lowest cost online at www.pricewatch.com is $618.00!!

The New JLF Server!!
Here are a few shots of the new server that Intel donated (see full specs listed below):

Intel Server Arrived!!
Kyle from Intel just dropped by last night with the new Jaguar LAN Fest game server (that Intel donated) and IT ROCKS!!! Here are the specs:

  • DUAL 2.4Ghz XEON Processors
  • IWill DP400 (Intel 860 Chipset) Server Motherboard (Not Relased Yet!)
  • 1GB of PC800 RDRAM
  • 120GB Western Digital IDE Hard Disk
  • WinFast GeForce 3 TDH Video Card
  • Onboard 10/100 Intel 82550EY NIC
  • PCI Intel® PRO/100+ Server Adapter (TP)
  • Extra Intel Pro/1000T Desktop NIC
  • DVD ROM Drive
  • 1.44MB Floppy
  • 430Watt Power Supply and case

I’m working hard at getting it built and ready for game action for the June 28-29th party! You’ll be able to see it in all it’s glory then. And remember that the sign up late fee for the party adds another $5.00 to the total cost if you don’t sign up by 11PM TOMORROW NIGHT (June 24)!!

Also, don’t forget that there’s going to be drawing for an Intel 2.26 Ghz processor (or better) if you sign up and attend the June 28-29th party!!!
