Online Game Night #09

That was fun while it lasted... But it seemed everything came to a screeching halt when more than 5 people where playing. Acrid and Jeff "Dr. Death" Stiger were experiencing what appeared to be a similar high ping problem (around 850-1200). Acrid did a trace route and said that there were a lot of hops to get to the server. I did one too and it timed out at 14 hops. On that note, Blazan just told me that AT&T Broadband (server is on AT&T) got hit by a virus and that they said they would be experiencing problems. Not sure where we go from here. Apologies for any frustrations anyone went through. Overall, we just need more bandwidth for the server then our 128K up!!

2) Duck
3) Jackal

What a bummer. Because changes were made to Mr. Buns' router setup, the server had major difficulties getting to work properly until 9:05PM. Needless to say, not many of you managed to join... Sorry bout that. Well, it was nice while it lasted. *Sigh*

Online Game Night #07
Thank's to Mr. Buns' tweaking, tonight's server was the fastest configuration so far! So much more fun with a faster ping! When there were problems, I think they were a result of people downloading the maps when trying to connect from the "outside" world. And since there were lots of folks joinging in from the outside, the password may be used again next time....

Along those lines, a friendly person by the name of "Abe" joined the game late tonight and said that he/she might join us next time. He/she's from Pheonix, AR and said he/she'd download the jaguar mod off the web site... Hopefully we'll see more of Abe.

Those Who Played
1) Acrid
2) Disruptor
3) Dr. Freeze
4) Duck
5) FUBAR
6) Jackal
7) JAG
8) Mr. Buns

The next online event will be announced (probably not until after the party to give us all time to prepare).

Online Game Night #06
Although it was great to play against you all tonight, it seemed like the DSL bandwidth on tonight's server could not keep up. I don't know about everyone else, but the lag on my end was tremendously slow. It seems that the cable modem for hosting the server is the way to go. But at least Jackal, Slippo and a few others new to "Online Thursdays" (Blazan, The Killer Bean, and Dr. Freeze) made it in for some fragging; too bad it couldn't have been a "smoother" first impression. I'll keep you posted as to what the new IP address  will be for next weeks server. * Sigh * If only we had the money for a T1 and a dedicated 1.4Ghz server...  (harp music playing in the background while fading to white)

Online Game Night #05
Even after tweaking ICS, Jackal was still unable to see the server! So next week we will be moving the server to another location and see if that helps any. Disruptor has an "extra" 500 Mhz. box with 256MB RAM that will be used for the next online event. This has been rather frustrating, but we'll get to the bottom of it! Thanks to Jackal for all his efforts!

A friend of mine was able to come over to my place and check out what this whole online gaming thing is all about. His name is Todd Fox and I've known him for quite some time. His nick name is "FoxMan" and watch out because just after a few minutes of showing him how the controls with the mouse etc. work, he was a fragging-grappling fool! He's on the verge of getting DSL; hopefully after playing, he'll be a little more motivated to getting it!

1) Disruptor
2) Duck
3) FoxMan

4) JAG
5) Mr. Buns
6) Scythe

Also, next week we'll just be using Quake 3 with the Jaguar Mod (no Coliseum Mod). I'll be sending out an email as usual with the new server specifications etc. Looking forward to seeing you once again on the battlefield!  The next online event will be Thursday, July 12th at 8:00 PM.
