Games Played At JLF Parties

Here's a list of some of the games we are expected to play at the upcoming party.  Please install and configure the ones you'll enjoy playing to your liking before the party as it will help you have more play time while at the party. If you are not able to get all you want loaded beforehand, someone from JLF should be able to assist you (if needed) Friday night. All the latest patches and "Game Mods" will be available at the party.

An outstanding all-around FPS!

From Gamespot's review (9.3 Points):

The Good
Thrilling online gameplay that's revolutionary at times; Built-in voice support is the next best thing to Xbox Live; The new squad and commander functions elevate the gameplay; Beautiful graphics and insane sound effects immerse you; The best military action game yet made;

The Bad
Steep hardware requirements, long load times; No way to keep track of buddies; Clumsy server browser; No cooperative gameplay mode; Rebinding controls can be frustrating;

Despite the fact that it's a sequel, Battlefield 2 is a thrilling action game that immerses you in the chaos of combat like never before.

Gameplay much like it's predesessor which was a classic and a favorite to old-school JLFers.

From Gamespot's review (8.0 Points):

The Good
Sharp single-player campaign; Some of the best graphics around; Weapon upgrades make you rethink how you use your arsenal along the way;

The Bad
Multiplayer sticks too close to Quake III's blueprint; Kind of a resource hog; Vehicle sequences are a little too basic;

The single-player is great fun, but the uninspired multiplayer leaves a lot to be desired.

A great all-around WWII FPS!

From Gamespot's preview:

It's like Call of Duty, only bigger, better, and definitely much louder.

It's a wonder that the developers at Infinity Ward haven't gone deaf from working on the Call of Duty franchise. Every time we think it can't get any more intense, more chaotic, or louder, the company keeps redefining what "11" means. Case in point is Call of Duty 2, a game that's getting a lot of attention because it's the sequel to the best-selling, critically adored game. However, it's also going to be an Xbox 360 launch title, and you can see it running at Microsoft's booth on the next-generation console. There's a big line to see Activision's Call of Duty 2 demo, but we were luckily whisked inside to see one of the first presentations of the day.

The loops and jumps are great!

From Gamespot's review (8.2 Points):

The Good
One of the deepest track editors ever found in a racer; Crazy physics and ridiculous speeds make for some pretty exciting races; Plenty of lasting value, both online and off; A much-improved graphics engine; Good soundtrack;

The Bad
Track editor is a little hard to sift through at first, due to its lack of tutorial; Still no car collision; Periodically frustrating, especially during the puzzle mode;

Sunrise is, in most every way, exactly what you would want from a sequel to the original TrackMania.

Age Of Empires 3

The latest and greatest of a classic RTS!

From Gamespot's review (8.2 Points):

The Good
Tried-and-true formula still makes for a complex and interesting strategy game; Innovative "home city" system creates long-term depth and strategy; Plenty of content and modes of play; Spectacular visuals, if you have a fast system;

The Bad
Some aspects of combat don't look and feel quite right; Frame rate can bog down at the wrong moments; Falls into some of the same traps as many older real-time strategy games;

Those looking for a complex and interesting real-time strategy game with fantastic good looks and some historical flavor will find just what they want in Age of Empires III.

My favorite RTS to date!

From Gamespot's review (9.3 Points):

By combining some of the concepts of Civilization with the general gameplay of Age of Empires, Big Huge Games has created a truly outstanding game.

Designer Brian Reynolds had already made a name for himself with his work with Sid Meier on turn-based strategy classics such as Civilization II and Alpha Centauri. But Reynolds went off and founded a new studio called Big Huge Games and began work on the historically themed Rise of Nations, a game that has finally arrived on store shelves. This superb strategy game combines the best elements of real-time strategy with the conventions of the turn-based blockbusters that Reynolds had worked on previously. By combining some of the concepts of Civilization with the general gameplay of Age of Empires, Reynolds and Big Huge Games have created a truly outstanding game.
